NAIROBIANS URGED TO TURN UP IN LARGE NUMBERS TO REGISTER FOR HUDUMA NAMBA

The State Department of Correctional Services Principal Secretary (PS), Ms. Zainab Hussein has decried the low turnout in Huduma Namba registration exercise in Nairobi County and urged the public to visit registration centres.
Ms. Hussein said by the end of Monday May 6, only 2 million people had registered whereas the county’s target is 5.6 million.
She said the government expects all Kenyans to register before the end of the designated period for the exercise to enable the state plan its policies and programmes for effective service delivery.
Speaking on Tuesday during the launch of Nairobi County mass registration exercise for National Integrated Information Management System popularly known as Huduma Namba at Kabete National Polytechnic in Westlands Sub County, the PS said.

Huduma Namba is vital as it will enable the government to know the whereabouts of all citizens and to bring services closer to the people.
She said Huduma Namba will help the government to plan issues of education, security and development among others.
“Huduma Namba will have an individual’s information on Kenya Revenue Authority pin, identification, birth certificate, passport, NHIF card, driving licence, Itax in one place, making those seeking services get them faster since the information will be digitized,” said Ms. Hussein.
In his remarks, Nairobi Regional Commissioner (RC), Wilson Njega called on all leaders in the county to support the programme and mobilise people around them to register.
He said the turn out in huduma namba registration in Westlands Sub-County is not impressive, noting that as of yesterday only 162,000 had registered compared to Kasarani Sub- County who have so far registered over 361,000 people.
The RC said Huduma Namba will help to expose fraudsters who have been using other people’s names and identity cards to register fraudulent deals related to land and tax evasion.
“The current documents we possess have multiple registration, but with Huduma Namba people will only have one number thereby eliminating all incidents of insecurity. This will make it difficult for one to register using another person’s name or details,” added Njega.
He said the registration exercise starts from 7 am to 5 pm daily from Monday to Sunday and urged all Nairobians to register as they have only two weeks since the exercise ends on May 17 this month.

Speaking at the event, the Member of Parliament for Westlands Constituency, Tim Wanyonyi told Kenyans not to be suspicious of the registration, saying the exercise will enable the government to properly plan its policies and programmes.
“It will also help the government to deal with insecurity issues brought by people who have been entering the country secretly,” noted Wanyonyi.
The Nairobi County Commissioner (CC), Flora Mworoa said the huduma namba is not related to the biblical number 666 and dispelled rumours that blood sample was needed for registration.
The function was also attended by Deputy County Commissioner Westlands Sub- County, Mawiira Mungania and the Chief Principal Kabete National Polytechnic, Charles Akach among others.

KANGEMI PRIMARY TRANSFORMED BY TIM WANYONYI

It is the only public primary school in the expansive Mountain View Ward. The school has a current enrollment of 1,846 pupils and 30 teachers. The school bore the brunt of a ballooning population of its catchment comprising of Gichagi, Rift Valley, Village Inn and St Joseph informal settlement areas.  The free primary education programme introduced in January 2003 positively contributed to an increased enrollment of pupils at the school .The high enrollment with the limited physical facilities at the school resulted in congested classrooms. The defunct city council failure to allocate resources to the school further  contributed to the sorry state of affairs with the school infrastructure being overstretched. THOUSANDS OF KIBAGARE SLUM DWELLERS IN WESTLANDS FACE POTENTIAL EVICTIONS

Aug 1st, 2016 George Kidi Kiprono Kibagare Slum Dwellers demonstrating peacefully on Aug 1, 2016 led by Westlands MP Hon Tim Wanyonyi against an illegal verbal eviction notice issued by the Nairobi School Principal. At least ten t housand Kibagare Slum dwellers  are threatened with eviction from their homes and businesses following a verbal eviction notice which sources point to the nearby Nairobi School Principal. According to the Kibagare Informal Settlement leadership, last week, the Deputy President visited Nairobi School and was notified by the school the need to set up a perimeter wall to cordon off the school land.  A day after the visit, the Kibagare leaders were summoned for a meeting with the principal of the school where he told them that a wall is supposed to be built on the disputed land which is about 4 acres. He was categorical that the land belongs to Nairobi School and the residents have no option but to voluntarily leave or be forcefully evicted.
