MP WANYONYI ROOTS FOR SAVING CULTURE AMONG YOUTH

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi is rooting for financial literacy among the youth to help them develop a saving culture.

Speaking at the induction training for the new Biashara Ya Westlands SACCO (BIYAWE), the industrious legislator made a strong case for instilling a saving culture in the youth,saying setting aside KES 50 a day would amount to KES 18,000 a year.

He urged the youth to save more and spend less on non-essentials.The new SACCO targets individual youth,YOUTH in groups, bodaboda groups as wells as small scale traders from across Westlands.


Mr Wanyonyi urged the members of the SACCO to support it through savings and engage in investment so as to nurture their growth.

BIYAWE SACCO is set to be launched mid of March 2019. It will offer opportunities to obtain capital, accumulate savings and market the output of their commercial efforts.

The SACCO will have a membership subscription fee of KES 2,000, share capital of KES 2,000 and a minimum daily contribution of KES 50.

KANGEMI PRIMARY TRANSFORMED BY TIM WANYONYI

Kangemi Primary School pupils studying in one of the refurbished classrooms courtesy of Westlands MP Hon Tim Wanyonyi. Kangemi Primary School was established in 1927. It is the only public primary school in the expansive Mountain View Ward. The school has a current enrollment of 1,846 pupils and 30 teachers. The school bore the brunt of a ballooning population of its catchment comprising of Gichagi, Rift Valley, Village Inn and St Joseph informal settlement areas.  The free primary education programme introduced in January 2003 positively contributed to an increased enrollment of pupils at the school .The high enrollment with the limited physical facilities at the school resulted in congested classrooms. The defunct city council failure to allocate resources to the school further  contributed to the sorry state of affairs with the school infrastructure being overstretched. THOUSANDS OF KIBAGARE SLUM DWELLERS IN WESTLANDS FACE POTENTIAL EVICTIONS

Aug 1st, 2016 George Kidi Kiprono Kibagare Slum Dwellers demonstrating peacefully on Aug 1, 2016 led by Westlands MP Hon Tim Wanyonyi against an illegal verbal eviction notice issued by the Nairobi School Principal. At least ten t housand Kibagare Slum dwellers  are threatened with eviction from their homes and businesses following a verbal eviction notice which sources point to the nearby Nairobi School Principal. According to the Kibagare Informal Settlement leadership, last week, the Deputy President visited Nairobi School and was notified by the school the need to set up a perimeter wall to cordon off the school land.  A day after the visit, the Kibagare leaders were summoned for a meeting with the principal of the school where he told them that a wall is supposed to be built on the disputed land which is about 4 acres. He was categorical that the land belongs to Nairobi School and the residents have no option but to voluntarily leave or be forcefully evicted.
