New Kihumbuini Primary School in Kangemi Informal Settlement has a new computer laboratory thanks to the Westlands ICT Labs Project initiated by the Westlands Member of Parliament   Hon Tim Wanyonyi.

The Westlands ICT Labs Project is aimed at helping all the 18 public primary schools in Westlands Constituency to stay connected in this  digital age through establishing fully networked computer laboratories in each school .

This marks  the 9th ICT centre under the Wesltands legislators flagship  Westlands ICT labs project and is the result of collaborative efforts with various partners such as Kipepeo Solutions Limited.

With 40 networked computers and broadband Internet access, the lab is expected to serve as a resource hub for the 1700 pupils and 36 teachers in the institution.

The Computer Labs are designed to give pupils the opportunity to learn important computer skills to help guide their learning and help them apply what they learn.

The following schools have each received a fully furnished computer lab consisting of40 computers each:
  1. Kangemi Primary School
  2. Kangemi Polytechnic
  3. Highridge Secondary School
  4. Visa Oshwal Primary School
  5. Hospital Hill Primary School
  6. Kabete Vet Lab Primary School
  7. Loresho Primary School
  8. Lower Kabete Primary School
  9. New Kihumbuini Primary School

Westlands CDF under the patronage of Hon Tim Wanyonyi donated 100 desks and chairs to the school

"Indeed one of the factors constraining the economic growth of Kenya is the relative shortage of e-skills. I call upon the private sector to support this initiative to make ICT education a reality in all the Westlands schools. By exposing our learners to computers, they will learn how to actively seek information, which we believe will significantly contribute to their development and eventual competitiveness in the job market," Hon Wanyonyi said.
