KANGEMI PRIMARY SCHOOL RECEIVES A FACELIFT
Westlands MP, Hon Tim
Wanyonyi will this morning handover a fully refurbished Kangemi Primary School.
The school which has a population of 1,500 pupils has 36 classrooms which were in
deplorable state. The renovations have been carried out by the Westlands National Government
Constituency Development Fund.
The importance of the renewal can not be understated given that
the school is the only public primary school in the sprawling Gichagi Village
within the congested Kangemi Informal Settlements.
Due to the fact that there are few public schools in Kangemi
relative to the population of pupils and students and also compounded by the
dilapidated state of public schools has led to mushrooming of informal
schools within the slums.
These informal schools offer poor standards of education, lack
sufficient space and lack basic facilities. With the renovation, Kangemi
primary school will have a new lease of life by attracting more enrollment and
provide a powerful learning environment for learning for the pupils restoring
confidence in the community.
Hon Wanyonyi is on course to ensure that all the public primary
schools in Westlands Constituency receive a facelift as per his electioneering
manifesto. The schools which have been in existence for over 40 years require
major rehabilitation after neglect by the defunct Nairobi City Council.
