TIM WANYONYI SUPERCUP 2015: ATHLETICO AND WESTGIRLS CROWNED AS THE NEW CHAMPIONS

Kangemi Athletico Fc pipped defending Champions Amigos Fc by a solitary goal at Kihumbuini Stadium in Kangemi on Saturday, December 12, 2015 to emerge as the new champions of the 3rd Edition of the Westlands Constituency Tim Wanyonyi Super Cup.

Albert Onywera’s 70th minute 30 yard wonder strike beat the 1st runners up Kenya Premier League Golden Glove winner Farouk Shikalo to win the tightly contested match.

Meanwhile Westgirls were the victors in the ladies category after withstanding late pressure from Victoria Queens who had a goal disallowed in the 60th minute for offside to win 6-5 through spot kicks after a barren stalemate.

Star Studded Amigos
Amigos who featured a multitude of  Kenya premier league players including Patila Omoto, Francis Kahata, Moses Abisi and Joseph Shikokoti failed to defend the title they won last year after struggling against a well-oiled Athletico Fc coached by the experienced Athanus Obango.

Amigos had the better of the first half and Paul Odhiambo, who scored in last year’s final against Kangemi All Stars, nearly broke the deadlock twice in quick succession only to be denied by superb stops from Athletico keeper Michael Kalemere.

Athletico’s Technical Astuteness and Resilience
From the first whistle the pace and movement of Tiego Collins and Albert Onywera immediately exposed Jashwel Ngugi, in particular, in the style that has troubled so many teams on Athletico's remarkable run in the tournament.

Athletico’s technical astuteness and resilience yielded the much required fruits after Onywera was beautifully teed up by Johnson Aswani’s through pass from the right wing. He turned Geoffrey Shiveka inside out before unleashing a screamer that beat the startled Farouk Shikalo in goal.

As Athletico pressed and pushed, Amigos retreated on to the back foot. Obango’s side looked high on confidence and adrenalin, the reigning champions fearful and tentative.

Athletico held on to win the match with eye catching intricate passing and excellent positioning starving the Kenyan International duo of Patilla Omoto and Francis Kahata the ball to create opportunities.

3rd Edition Tim Wanyonyi Super Cup New Winners
Athletico Fc becomes the third side to have won the Tim Wanyonyi Men Super Cup after Kangemi All Stars (2013) and Amigos Fc ( 2014) coincidentally also from Kangemi.

Westgirls Fc from Kitisuru beat Victoria Queens from Parklands Ward 6-5 through penalty shoot outs after a 0-0 stalemate in regular time to emerge as the new Tim Wanyonyi Women Super Cup Champions dethroning Kangemi ladies who won the last two previous editions.
